YOU'VE LIVED A MILLION LIVES AND DON'T REMEMBER??? WHY?

Espree is staring at me with a shocked expression on her face.  “Apparently we have neglected a very important point here Tim.  Apparently the times I have describe to you in terms of millions of years flew right over your head.
“When I say you have become trapped in this universe, I did not mean it just happened!  This has been going on for billions of years!  Most people you see have been around millions probably billions of years!  Do you realize how many lifetimes that is?  Can you imagine how many memories you have?”
I am shocked.  Of all the unbelievable things Espree has told me, this is the thing I simply can’t accept.  It’s so…it’s so personal.  Sure, you can tell me the Universe is a trap or the planet is being harvested or even that I was once a free spirit who has become trapped.  It’s a nice philosophic, abstract idea that I can use when I’m in some contemplative mood or sitting around smoking weed with my friends.  Now she is telling me I may be millions of years old and that I actually have memories of the whole experience.  Well, I don’t.  And If I did I’d know it wouldn’t I?  I would certainly have some kind of recollection if it were true right?

THE "HARVEST" OF PLANET EARTH

“Planet Earth is being ‘Harvested’ Tim.”
“What do you mean Harvested?”
“I mean the population of Earth is going to be collected up and shipped off to some other planet or city or whatever.  I really don’t know where they will be taken.”
I’m about to ask a few hundred more questions but Espree holds up a hand, shaking
her head in dismissal.
“I know you have a hundred questions Tim and they will all be answered in time, but for now, you must listen to me.”
Considering the circumstance I suppose that’s the right thing to do.
She takes a long pause, as if gathering her words carefully, then looks at me - the look, one of sympathy and of frustration.
“You are an immortal spirit Tim.”
She kept harping on that the other day at lunch.  I don’t really get why that is so relevant right now.
“OK.”  I say shrugging my shoulders - waiting for her to make a point.
“And this universe is a trap.”
“Uh, OK.  But professor, please, can you tell me about this invasion?”  Her behavior is really confusing me.
“It is why you are being invaded Tim and why you are here at this time, confined as you are to a planet - you are in a trap!”
“Well, OK, but how do you know about all this?  Are they going to take over the earth?  What’s going to happen to everybody?”
She seems to slump – as if she’s given up trying.  I don’t know what I did to cause that reaction.  I just think that discussions about deep things, like spirituality and philosophic traps seem rather inappropriate considering aliens are on our doorstep.
She shakes her head and gets up from her chair.  “I should know better but I thought you might be different Tim.  I was being much too hopeful, and silly.
“This is a universe of force, not reason,” she says more to herself than me.  Then she motions for me accompany her to the window.
“Point out something big.”  She says looking out the window.
“Why, uh, what for…”
“Just point to something large!”
“OK.  OK.”
There’s a big heavy palm tree outside the window.  It’s about 50 feet high.
“OK, that tree.”
Almost instantaneously the tree begins to shudder.  I hear a grinding, popping sound as the tree pulls up out of the ground, rises in the air and turns upside down!  Then it smashes down into the ground, pushing deeper and deeper until only its roots are showing.
Professor Espree turns and looks at me, her eyes flashing with anger.
“This seems to be the only thing you people understand, force, stunts, spectacle, it’s downright exasperating!  Why do I have to come across as some kind of supreme being for you to take me seriously?”
I’m still trying to conceive of how she did that.  She didn’t even move.  There was no squinting like Yoda, no trembling, outstretched arm, nothing.
“Can you teach me how to do that?”
She shakes her head and smiles in resignation.
“That is the easy part Tim.  Unfortunately what appears to be quite impossible is my ability to ‘un-teach’ you the things you’ve learned that make you incapable of doing that!”

WHAT IS THE MIND?

EXCERPT FROM "TOTAL AMNESIA"

Espree (a free spirit is talking to Tim)

“You see Tim, being confined to that brain of yours leaves you in a condition of being constantly besieged by the extremely heavy, coarse wavelengths of energy produced by the universe around you.  You open your bodies’ eyes and you are bombarded by light.  Your ears continually overwhelm you with sound, your nose with smell.  Your whole body is a bundle of coordinated sensing devices, continually feeding heavy, harsh perceptions to your brain, then to your mind – which is the thing that you wear like a straight-jacket.
The mind has been downloaded into the brain, the same way you download software into your computer – but they are separate entities.  The mind is essential to the brain.  Otherwise it would be like having a computer with no software – it would be useless.

The mind is almost exactly like a circuit board – only in 3D.  It surrounds you in an invisible field of suspended energy, each circuit is created to filter certain kinds of thoughts and run them through a program.  If you think “I want to want to fly across the universe.” That thought is run through the program of the mind.  The work “I” – which conceptually refers to you as a spirit – when run through the program converts a free spirit (the true “I”) to an identification with a body which contains millions of control circuits that that lock you into your body – thus “I” becomes a body.  The word “want” runs through the circuit of hormonal “feelings” and physical cravings – thus “want” becomes a physical craving.  “Fly” is run through a scientific circuit complete with air flow equations, engine propulsion principles and various kinds of flight data - which totally invalidates anything to about spiritual flight. The word “Universe” is run through a program of gravity and physics and energy.  Now the thought “I want to fly across the unverse” becomes utterly and totally limiting.

Like the computer, this all done in the background and never is seen at the programming level because “programming energy” is a different form of energy, unknown to your instruments.  Therefore all you see on the "computer screen" of you mind is the resulting computation.

You were fitting to a mind long before you were downloaded into a body.  Though you have had many bodies, you have only one mind and each time to are downloaded into a new kind of body, new drivers are automatically loaded into the mind that run the program of the new bodys' brain.

I mean how can you even concentrate?  I honestly couldn’t even think straight when I operated this body from inside – so I had to figured out how to operate if from outside.”

FREEDOM

EXCERPT:  TOTAL AMNESIA
by J.W. Northrup

“I think we’re on the right track.”  I say.  “It isn’t a very comfortable track, but it seems to be the way.  Escape seems to be the opposite of freedom.  Funny, you would think it’s the other way around.  You’d think that if you escape something, you would be free of it, but that is not right.  If you are escaping from something, it means you must avoid it.  It means you are no longer free of it.  The more you have to escape, the more you are trapped.

DINOSAURS

EXCERPT FROM "TOTAL AMNESIA"
by J.W. Northrup

“Wow!  This is interesting!” he says, “this has to be one of the more diverse planets in the galaxy.  They have more strange varieties of creatures here than you have in that brain of yours.  You know the famous Zuell and Crock traveling circus?  This is where they bred those dinosaurs some 300 deci-terms ago - right here!”
“I’ll be damned!  Do you think there may be any left?”
“Don’t be silly, they transferred them to the Colomb system.  Anyway, that’s a patented gene pattern.  Obviously they would have detected them long ago and destroyed them according to patent confidentiality laws.
Toko is looking through the database.  “Man they got everything here!”  The screen begins displaying a series of random images showing the diversity of life on the planet.   A picture of an octopus appears on the screen.
“Look at that!  Yuck!”
He brings up a Siberian Tiger.  “Oh man!” they all say in unison, “that’s beautiful!”
“I’m definitely going to take one of those home with me,” says Toko, “anyone have a patent on that gene pattern?”
“Uh, let’s see,” says Bisto bringing up the genetic data on a tiger, “Nope, says genetic pattern 387490283974-CR is public domain if you use a gene lock.”
“Alright!” says Toko enthusiastically, “that’s my boy’s birthday present!”

TOTAL AMNESIA

This is the beginning of my blog covering my newest creation in literary prose "Total Amnesia".

It is a story about an immortal soul - me - who has no recollection of how he got here beyond this temporal life and the free spirit "Espree" who helped me to remember.  In this excerpt we are discussing animals and whether they have a soul as we do.

“Is the same true for animals Espree? Is each animal is a Spirit Trapped in a body?”
“Not all of them.  You see a body does not need a spirit inhabiting it in order for it to function.  A beetle, for instance is just a biological unit and operates like a robot – the only difference being that the creators of the gene pattern paid a fee to allow them to use the patented ‘replication’ process.  A horse on the other hand usually is usually animated by a spirit, but unfortunately the spirit is immersed in a massive body with a simplistic brain.  It would be like loading software on a computer that is 20 years old.  The simple brain of a horse would be the hardware, the mind, the software.  Some of the computations will run effectively on a horse, but only a few simple programs – such as their ability to make their body run, acquire food and to mate.   Most advance programs will not even run, and for those that do, it is like watching the ‘hourglass’ on your computer screen tumble over and over.  Try to talk to a horse and their ability to grasp the concept of language is so slow that they never catch on – their hardware/software package runs the program so slow that the horse would literally die of old age before the hourglass stopped tumbling and he began to comprehend.  The spirit inhabiting the body is so restricted in its perceptions that it gives the appearance of being rather dull – when in actuality it is simply suppressed by the inability of its mechanical mind to compute.”
She smiles.  “But if you can get through to a horse with spiritual communication – such as the ‘telepathy’ you sense between us – they are no different than you or I.  I love communicating with animals – they don’t have as many computations running as humans and so the communication is much more pure.
            “OK professor Doolittle.”
